What I’m reading

Even though I’ve been busy helping my parents, I’ve stayed on track with my reading.  Look!  I’m well on my way for my 2014 reading goal:

Reading Challenge

Here’s what I’ve been reading lately:

book jacket Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

This is an amazing book.  It takes place both in the present time, and in 1942, in Seattle Washington.  It’s about a Chinese boy, and his Japanese friend, during the time that the Japanese were being placed in internment camps around the US.  A fascinating subject, and the book is very well written.

Pros and Cons: A Short Story by Janet Evanovich:: Reader Store Pros and Cons

This is a short story that introduces the reader to Kate O’Hare, and the con-man she is tracking, Nick Fox.  I loved The Heist, and am so glad I read this short story to get me better acquainted.  Now I’m REALLY looking forward to The Chase, which comes out February 25th!

book jacket Beautiful Day

I listened to this book when I was driving to and from Minnesota last week.  It’s the story of a  wedding, one planned in a notebook by a mother dying of cancer.  I really enjoyed how Elin Hilderbrand captured how complex a family really is, especially in modern times of divorce and remarriage.  An excellent book- one that makes you think, laugh and cry, all at the same time.

And I’m currently reading:

book jacket Serena

This book was on my list of “books that you need to read before they’re made into movies.”  I’m almost done with it, and it is AWESOME.  It’s got a very Bonnie and Clyde feel to it, and I can hardly put it down to go to sleep at night.

What are you reading right now?

  1. Hotel on the Corner… looks great. At the moment, I am finishing the third installment in a Guinevere trilogy and just started Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods.
