Zach loves Crocs. That’s his summer sandal. I actually have to put his Crocs away when the snow falls, because he’d wear them year round.
So when one of his Crocs lost a strap last spring, I bought him a new pair. We don’t do the generic kinds, because we’ve found that the name brand Crocs last way longer. His new pair was even a size bigger, so they ‘d hopefully last for two summers.
The third week of summer vacation, Zach went swimming. With his Crocs on. He went down the big slide into the water, and guess what? He lost a Croc.
He and his babysitter came to the library to tell me. Was it the old Crocs, the ones with one strap missing? OH NO. It was the brand spankin’ new Crocs. The ones that I had hoped would last TWO summers.
I headed over to the lake to see if I could find it. (Actually, Dan told me to go over there. ”GO GET THE DARN SHOE” were his exact words.) The lake was so weedy….I couldn’t find it. Our super-duper-babysitter-of-the-year even went swimming for it. Nothing.
But! All was not lost. It just so happened that the old Croc with the strap still attached was his left Croc. His remaining new Croc was his right Croc. So guess what Zach wore all summer?
Yep. Mismatched Crocs. He didn’t seem to mind, so I didn’t mind. He’s actually wearing them right now at school!
Needless to say, Zach swam bare-footed the rest of the summer. I think he learned his lesson.
